Prof Anne R Katahoire

Anne Ruhweza Katahoire is a Professor of Social Behavioral Sciences (SBS) at Child Health and Development Centre (CHDC), School of Medicine, Makerere University College of Health Sciences (MakCHS). Prof Katahoire directed, Child Health and Development Centre, for over 10 years, and has extensive experience in directing multidisciplinary research and training programs in health, in particular, she has over 20 years’ experience conducting SBS research in Health. Her research focus over the past 15 years has been on social and behavioral aspects of HIV, sexual reproductive health, child health and more recently TB and NCDs. She has supervised and examined multiple graduate student research including PhDs that employ mixed methods research designs and whose research in health focuses on social behavioral science questions. She currently Co- Directs a mixed methods course for junior investigators offered by the Pulmonary Complications of AIDS research Training Program (PART) at MakCHS and is a Co-Director of a research training program that is strengthening Behavioral and Social Sciences Research (BSSR) in HIV at Makerere University, funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institutes of Health on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA), National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) and Fogarty International Centre (FIC). She teaches qualitative research courses for PhD and Masters Students in the Clinical Epidemiology Unit and is a key faculty on the Joint Advanced Research Seminars for PhDs offered annually by the Consortium for Advanced Research Training in Africa (CARTA). She is a Principal Investigator and a Co-Investigator on several research studies where she leads the social behavioral research components. Prof Katahoire is an Affiliate faculty of the Care Protection and Children’s (CPC) Learning Network based at Columbia University.  She chairs the Board of Trustees of the Children’s Rights and Violence Prevention Fund (CRVPF) and is a member of the International Steering Committee of the NIHR Group on the prevention and management of HIV-infection, diabetes and hypertension in Africa.
